Speedy Binghamton native Steve Esposito bolted to the finish line, sprinting the final 100 yards of the Tie Dye 5K with his eyes on the race clock. As he crossed the line, the clock illuminated with 16:15 – an incredible time and the third fastest ever on the Rail Trail 5K Course. The race, held on May 27, was a benefit for the Cider Mill Playhouse, which is currently looking for a new Playhouse home. The 27 year old Esposito already holds the 10K course record, setting it last year at the Mirabito Charity 5K and 10K with a time of 33:52. If you are wondering who holds down the top 2 spots for the fastest 5K times ever – Number 1 is  Sam Williams who ran a jaw dropping 15:25 at the Christmas Cookie Run in December of 2016 and Number 2 is Jack Hillenbrand who finished with a time of 15:54 at the Bunny Run in April of 2017. What will the future bring – will anybody surpass one of these three juggernauts and join the record books?  We will see – but let’s appreciate these runners!
